William F. Allen’s practice focuses primarily on complex or class action labor and employment litigation.
Mr. Allen has represented a variety of clients in connection with state and federal class action litigation involving wage and hour matters, including off-the-clock work, preliminary and postliminary activities, termination pay and overtime compensation methods. In addition, Mr. Allen has handled a number of individual wage and hour or Title VII/ADA matters and provided counseling to clients regarding federal contractor compliance issues.
Mr. Allen has also represented clients in complex unfair labor practice and compliance matters before the National Labor Relations Board. For example, he represented a major grocery chain in a 79-day unfair labor practice hearing. He has also submitted positions statements in response to unfair labor practice charges and handled grievance arbitrations.
From 2002 to 2006 Mr. Allen served as associate counsel in the Office of House Employment Counsel of the U.S. House of Representatives. During his tenure there he provided training and counseling to congressional members and committees on employment matters, participated in mediation and administrative hearings, litigated individual and class action cases in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and argued a constitutional immunity issue before an en banc panel of the D.C. Circuit. From 1996 to 2002 Mr. Allen was an associate at Akin Gump.
Mr. Allen received his B.S. in computer science with distinction in 1988, his M.B.A. in 1992 and his J.D. in 1996 from the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. While at the University of Virginia, Mr. Allen served three terms on the university’s Honor Committee.
Mr. Allen is a member of the District of Columbia and Connecticut Bars and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the District of Columbia and Maryland.
