Christopher W. Ahart’s practice focuses on securities litigation in federal and state courts. Mr. Ahart has defended companies, officers, directors and accountants in shareholder class action lawsuits alleging securities fraud, violations of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, breaches of fiduciary duty as well as derivative and related claims. He has also defended companies, officers, directors and accountants in regulatory enforcement actions before the Securities and Exchange Commission, and he has conducted an internal corporate investigation on behalf of a special committee. Mr. Ahart has also defended companies, officers and directors in shareholder class action lawsuits challenging corporate mergers and acquisitions, including allegations of unfair dealing and breaches of fiduciary duty.
Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Ahart was an associate at Vinson & Elkins LLP, where he practiced in the firm’s corporate finance and securities group. In addition to general corporate matters and capital markets financing, Mr. Ahart’s practice focused on corporate governance and federal securities laws.
Mr. Ahart received his B.B.A. and M.P.A. in 1998 and his J.D. in 2002 from the University of Texas. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas, and he is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Austin Bar Association and the Austin Young Lawyers Association. In addition, Mr. Ahart is a certified public accountant licensed to practice in the state of Texas.
