Women's Professional Development Initiative
Akin Gump’s female partners have strengthened the firm’s retention efforts by leading the Women’s Professional Development Initiative.
The Women’s Development Initiative provides a means for our female lawyers to address issues such as retention and enhancement of the economic viability of female lawyers through their participation in client development activities. Additionally, the Women’s Development Initiative includes a mentoring component as well as various speakers’ series and community service programs.
The female partners at Akin Gump hold periodic meetings to discuss issues relevant to the Women’s Development Initiative and to develop its programs and events. As part of the Women’s Initiative, in March 2007 Akin Gump held an unprecedented firm-wide two-day retreat for all female lawyers, with sessions and workshops on leadership, communication skills, mentoring and work/life balance, among others. The retreat was extremely well-received, and the firm hopes to hold further such gatherings in the future.
