David Markey's practice focuses on project development, project finance, and mergers and acquisitions in the energy and infrastructure sectors, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy.

Mr. Markey has practiced in the United States, the United Kingdom and continental Europe and has worked for developers, sponsors, lenders and investors on a variety of financings, private equity transactions and acquisitions.

Representative Matters

  • represented numerous solar developers and property owners in the development and financing of distributed solar projects across a variety of U.S. states
  • represented a large U.S. energy developer in the acquisition of a 2.1 MW solar photovoltaic power project which uses an innovative, patent-pending structure covering a parking area adjacent to Sun Devil Stadium at Arizona State University, which will purchase the energy generated by the project
  • represented wind developers in the acquisition and sale of more than 5,000 MW of capacity across the United States, including both individual project and portfolio sales
  • represented a developer in the debt and tax equity financing of a 50 MW wind project in New Mexico
  • represented a developer in the term financing of a 60 MW wind project in Nebraska and Kansas
  • represented a developer in a $140 million pre-construction financing for a 150 MW wind project in California
  • represented an Irish developer in the acquisition of a portfolio of wind farm projects in Illinois with a potential capacity of 787 MW
  • represented a developer in the acquisition of a portfolio of wind energy assets comprising approximately 3,650 MW of capacity located in various U.S. states
  • represented a developer and turbine manufacturer in the sale of a 70 MW wind project in Maryland and related turbine supply
  • represented a developer in the acquisition of various wind, solar and geothermal assets located in various U.S. states
  • represented major U.K. private equity investors in secondary markets transactions involving public/private partnership projects in the U.K.
  • represented a major U.S. multinational in evaluating the acquisition of an independent power plant in the Republic of Ireland
  • represented a Swedish company in joint venture arrangements with an African development organization for the combined development of oil exploration opportunities in various African countries

As a in-house counsel to a privately owned Switzerland-based investment group, Mr. Markey was involved in a wide range of commercial transactions, including real estate and aviation finance transactions across a number of European jurisdictions.

Mr. Markey received his LL.B. with honors from Durham University in 2000 and his L.P.C. from Nottingham Law School in 2001.

He was admitted to practice in England and Wales in 2004 and is a member of the California Bar.
