Since joining the firm in 1975, Dennis M. Race has focused on product liability, environmental and health and safety-related litigation.
Mr. Race counsels clients in state and federal courts throughout the United States. Much of his practice involves asbestos litigation. Mr. Race also concentrates on administrative and regulatory work before federal agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He has participated in many rulemakings and other administrative hearings before these agencies. He has worked closely with numerous experts, including toxicologists, mineralogists, pulmonologists and pathologists. Mr. Race serves as the national counsel for a mineral and chemical producer involved in numerous lawsuits involving asbestos-related diseases.
Mr. Race served as Akin Gump’s hiring partner for over 20 years and continues to focus on the professional development of the firm’s attorneys. He chairs the Compensation Committee for associates and counsel and is a member of the Practice Management Committee for the Washington Office.
Mr. Race is also a member of the National Advisory Board for the NALP Foundation.
Mr. Race received his B.A. in 1970 from Cleveland State University and his J.D. in 1973 from Case Western Reserve University, where he was articles editor of the Case Western Reserve Law Review. He began his legal career in the Appellate Division of the Solicitor's Office at the U.S. Department of Labor before moving to private practice at Akin Gump.
Mr. Race is a member of the District of Columbia and Ohio bars and is admitted to practice before several courts of appeals and district courts throughout the country.
