Biography

Melanie Miller focuses on bankruptcy and financial restructuring matters. Her experience extends across a variety of industries, including retail, energy and financial services.

Before joining the firm, Melanie was a law clerk to the Honorable Robert D. Drain in the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, and before that, a financial restructuring associate at an international law firm.

Melanie received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Florida.

Representative Work
  • Sungard: Counsel to Sungard Availability Services and its affiliates, a global operator of colocation data and disaster recovery centers, in their chapter 11 cases involving more than $500 million in liabilities and the sale of substantially all of the company’s assets.
  • Alex Jones: Counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors, on a pro bono basis, in the chapter 11 case of right-wing media personality Alex Jones, which was commenced following the entry of more than $1.5 billion in state court judgments against Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems, as a result of Jones’s defamatory comments regarding the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
  • GTT: Counsel to GTT Communications and its affiliates, operator of one of the largest Tier 1 internet networks in the world, in their chapter 11 cases involving $4.5 billion in liabilities. Successful Restructurings of the Year (Turnarounds & Workouts)
  • Ozon: Counsel to the ad hoc group of convertible noteholders of the $750 million restructuring of Ozon Holdings, Russia’s largest ecommerce platform.
  • TV Azteca: Counsel to an ad hoc group of unsecured noteholders in the cases of TV Azteca and its affiliates, Mexico’s second-largest mass media company, involving $400 million in debt.
  • Jones Energy: Represented an ad hoc group of first lien noteholders in connection with the prepackaged bankruptcy of Jones Energy, which equitized over $1.1 billion in funded indebtedness.*
  • Constellation Overseas: Represented an ad hoc group of secured noteholders in the chapter 15 cases of Constellation Overseas Ltd.*
