Financial Fraud Law Report has published “DOJ and SEC Officials Focus on Enforcement, Self-Reporting and Compliance at International FCPA Conference,” an Akin Gump client alert that was written by litigation partner Paul Butler and litigation senior counsel Nicole Sprinzen and Kimberly Ball.

The article summarizes some of the issues discussed at the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act conference in November 2014. Among them, were a review of anti-corruption enforcement efforts, steps that various agencies recommend companies take when they discover a violation and compliance best practices from the government’s perspective.

Throughout the conference, current and former senior-level officials from the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission repeatedly emphasized that companies need to focus on an effective compliance program, prompt disclosure when a violation is identified and cooperation during the investigation process.
