(Washington, D.C.) – At the NLADA Exemplar Award Dinner held in Washington, D.C., on June 26, the National Legal Aid and Defender Association (NLADA) recognized, among others, Akin Gump with its 2014 Beacon of Justice Award.  The award honors the firm’s work, spearheaded by litigation partner Mark MacDougall, on behalf of indigent defendants facing the death penalty in South Carolina. Akin Gump counsel Stanley Woodward accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

The firm has now been the proud recipient of NLADA’s Beacon of Justice Award six times in the seven years it has been presented.  Further, in 2006, MacDougall received an individual recognition from NLADA—the organization’s Exemplar Award—for his pro bono trial representation of indigent defendants facing the death penalty.

Founded in 1945, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 850 attorneys in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
