Ethisphere Institute Names Michele Roberts, Ed Rubinoff to List of Top Attorneys

(Washington, D.C.) – Michele A. Roberts and Edward L. Rubinoff of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP have been named to The Ethisphere Institute’s first annual list of “Attorneys Who Matter,” the firm announced today.  The list recognizes more than 100 attorneys who have made exceptional contributions to the corporate compliance field.

Ms. Roberts is a partner in Akin Gump’s white collar criminal defense practice.  Her clients include defendants charged with racketeering, tax fraud, wire fraud, insurance fraud, bank fraud and violation of securities regulations and both plaintiffs and defendants in the areas of commercial development, products liability, Title VII and premises liability.  Before entering private practice, Ms. Roberts served for eight years in the office of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, where she was trial counsel in more than 40 jury trials and ultimately was named chief of the office’s trial division.  She is a graduate of Wesleyan University and the University of California at Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law.

Mr. Rubinoff is a partner in the firm’s international trade practice.  He advises domestic and foreign companies on compliance with U.S. international trade control laws, conducts internal investigations and audits, designs and implements compliance programs, and represents clients in civil and criminal enforcement cases.  He also advises companies on national security reviews conducted by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States under the Exon-Florio Law.  His clients have included companies in the telecommunications, computer, software, technology, electronics, energy, defense, aerospace, chemical, agriculture, construction, manufacturing, financial services, private equity and equipment sectors.  Mr. Rubinoff is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and George Washington University’s law school.
