Akin Gump London-based investment management partner Ian Meade was quoted by Financial Times for its article “Hedge funds shun new European framework” on the topic of the deterrent effect that cost and compliance hurdles under the Alternative Fund Investment Managers Directive are having on fund managers.

Meade noted that managers will continue to use the UK private placement regime because they are “sceptical about appetite for the [AIFM] structure in continental Europe.”  He added that, “The headache and cost implications mean you have to be very confident in your ability to access funds in Europe.”
