chnoRemarks by Akin Gump entertainment and media practice head P. John Burke, who moderated the Finance Conference panel that opened the American Film Market in Santa Monica, Calif., were quoted by The Hollywood Reporter for its article “Brett Ratner: China Is Going to be the Saving Grace of the Movie Business.”

The article notes that the Burke-moderated panel included film director Brett Ratner; Rich Klubeck, partner at UTA; and Matt Belloni, THR’s executive editor and that China’s role in Hollywood loomed large over all the discussions.

On the topic of potential Chinese investment in Hollywood, Burke noted that there has been interest and investigation on the part of buyers but little activity to date. He said, however, that the difference he has noted is that previously it was “promoters who came over and said I’ve got a fund to buy this or that. Now we see the actual companies.”

Earlier this month, Burke was named a “Top Entertainment Attorney” for 2014 by Daily Journal. Learn more here.
