For its article “It's a busy time for mergers in Texas,” the Houston Chronicle spoke with several leading M&A attorneys, including Akin Gump Dallas corporate partner Ken Menges, on this year’s significant increase in merger activity in Texas.

The article notes that, in the first six months of 2014, Texas-based companies were involved in at least 255 mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures, a 44 percent increase from last year. Menges, who serves as the partner in charge of Akin Gump’s Dallas office, linked this rise to the strengthening IPO market: “When the IPO market improves, the M&A market increases, and when the M&A market increases, the IPO market improves even more.”
