The National Law Journal has quoted Akin Gump Supreme Court and appellate practice co-head Pratik Shah and Washington, D.C., partner in charge Anthony Pierce on the resignation of Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. and his possible replacement.
In “What’s Next for Eric Holder Jr.?” which examined the AG’s prospects for his next job after he leaves the Department of Justice, Pierce noted that, “I’m sure he would have a lot of options” in response to speculation that Holder could return to the practice of law, lead a university or work at a think tank, among other options.
In “Who Would Replace Holder as Attorney General?” Shah discussed the possibility that Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr., with whom he worked at the SG’s office until coming to Akin Gump in 2013, could step into the AG’s shoes: “I don’t think anyone could bring more integrity, gravitas and judgment to the job than Don. He’s been battle-tested in some of the most contentious cases before the court. With these sensitive issues, having Don at the helm made it a much smoother process.”
