In its September 11 article “Top lawyer in Swallow probe called tenacious,” The Salt Lake Tribune profiled Akin Gump white collar defense and government investigations partner Steve Reich as he begins an investigation on behalf of the Utah House Special Investigative Committee of Utah Attorney General John Swallow. Reich is co-leading the investigation with Akin Gump congressional investigations practice head Steve Ross.
Described by the paper as “a veteran of two previous impeachment probes” (those of President Bill Clinton in 1998 and of Connecticut Governor John Rowland in 2004), the article quotes Julian Epstein, who hired Reich as one of the Democratic investigators in the Clinton probe, as saying, “If I were to name the top five attorneys I’ve ever worked with, he would definitely be on the list. He’s probably the most rigorous attorney I’ve ever worked with.”
The article outlines Reich’s career and his work on these two investigations along with his experience as an associate deputy attorney general at the U.S. Department of Justice who served, in the paper’s words, as “the point man for the department’s response to a congressional investigation of ‘Fast and Furious’.”
