Akin Gump Announces Strategic Alliance With Gen. James L. Jones and Jones Group International

(Washington, D.C.)  Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is pleased to announce the formation of a strategic alliance with Jones Group International (JGI), the global consulting group led by Gen. James L. Jones, USMC (Ret.), former National Security Advisor to President Obama, Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Commander of the U.S. European Command, and 32nd Commandant of the Marine Corps. Through the alliance, Gen. Jones and JGI’s team will provide strategic advice and counsel to Akin Gump clients on a broad array of international policy and national security issues, with an emphasis on emerging markets in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Akin Gump chairman R. Bruce McLean stated, “As the firm’s global platform has expanded, so has the need to add a team with the depth of experience in, and knowledge of, international and defense policy issues. General Jones and his team are a great fit for us.”

“We recognize that our clients face numerous complexities and challenges operating in a global environment,” continued McLean. “Thus, we are proud to introduce such a talented group of professionals as resources for our firm and our clients—particularly General Jones, whose reputation as a leader on issues such as national security, energy and global competitiveness is unsurpassed.”

Gen. James L. Jones has led a distinguished career in public service in the Marine Corps that has spanned four decades. Upon his retirement from the Marine Corps in 2007, Gen. Jones became the president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for 21st Century Energy, where he worked to advance international cooperation on energy issues and protect national energy security.

Gen. Jones stated, “The world is rapidly changing, and navigating the nuances of the many political, business and economic issues that arise between the public and private sectors is increasingly challenging. I have made developing thoughtful and creative solutions to these issues a hallmark of my career, both in public service and the private sector, and look forward to putting that experience and skill to work on behalf of Akin Gump’s clients.”
