Akin Gump Named to National Law Journal’s Appellate Hot List

(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has been named to The National Law Journal’s Appellate Hot List for the fifth-straight year. The list highlights law firms that are “turning in the most exemplary, cutting-edge advocacy” before the U.S. Supreme Court and other federal and state appellate courts across the country.

NLJ noted that Akin Gump had a “good year on both coasts.”  Patricia Millett, co-leader of Akin Gump’s Supreme Court and appellate practice, argued her 31st case before the U.S. Supreme Court on April 24—more than any other woman in history. The same month, practice group co-leader Rex Heinke won a key California Supreme Court ruling in Brinker Restaurant Corp. v. Superior Court that clarified the state’s law requiring employers to give their workers meal breaks.

Akin Gump’s appellate practice is nationally recognized for its exceptionally experienced and respected lawyers, including several attorneys named as fellows of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, a former federal appellate court judge, a former state appellate court judge and a former long-term assistant to the solicitor general. The practice includes lawyers who have argued hundreds of appeals and writs and who have years logged as clerks at almost every level of the judicial system, including the U.S. Supreme Court, state supreme courts, federal appellate circuit courts, federal district courts and bankruptcy courts, as well as the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.

Founded in 1945, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 850 attorneys in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
