Gloria C. Jan’s practice focuses on employment litigation and counseling. She has represented employers in a wide range of labor and employment matters and has handled cases throughout the litigation process before state and federal courts, as well as administrative agency proceedings, entertainment labor arbitrations and private arbitrations, in matters involving discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour issues (including class actions), unfair competition and trade secrets, and entertainment labor disputes.
Ms. Jan’s representations include—
- defense of an employer against claims arising out of a workplace altercation (including claims for intentional infliction of emotional distress and battery), resulting in a complete defense verdict at trial
- successful defense of high profile individual writers in Writers Guild internal disciplinary proceedings
- appearance before the California Supreme Court on behalf of amicus curiae in a discrimination case.
Ms. Jan provides advice and counseling to employers in all areas of labor and employment law, including employment policies, wage and hour compliance, family and medical leave issues, and litigation avoidance. She also conducts investigations and training on employment issues, including harassment, discrimination, wage and hour issues, and employee leaves of absence.
Ms. Jan attended Yale Law School where she served as senior editor of Yale Law Journal and was a Coker Fellow. She graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a degree in psychology. From 1992-1993, Ms. Jan was a law clerk to the Honorable Harold M. Fong, United States District Court for the District of Hawaii.
