Jean-Rene Broussard counsels clients on customs compliance and international trade policy.
Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Broussard was an attorney with U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Regulations and Rulings, where he authored numerous rulings on the tariff classification and country of origin for a wide range of products, including numerous textile products. In addition, Mr. Broussard reviewed several legislative proposals, including the Haiti Economic Lift Program Act of 2010 and the Manufacturing Enhancement Act of 2010. Before joining CBP, Mr. Broussard worked for the Committee on Ways and Means Trade Staff, where he worked on a wide range of trade issues such as customs and the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill.
Mr. Broussard received his B.A. summa cum laude in political science from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 2002 and his J.D. from Tulane University Law School in 2006, where he was a member of the Tulane Moot Court Board. Mr. Broussard received his Master in Laws in international trade from American University Washington College of Law in 2008.
Mr. Broussard is licensed to practice in Virginia only and under the supervision of the partners of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. Mr. Broussard's application for admission to the District of Columbia Bar is pending.
