John V. Jansonius has practiced exclusively in the field of labor and employment law for over 30 years.
Mr. Jansonius’ practice involves the defense of employment discrimination claims, wrongful discharge claims, unfair labor practice claims under the National Labor Relations Act and denial of benefits claims under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. He has represented the defense in numerous jury and nonjury trials in state and federal court and has presented oral arguments to the U.S. Supreme Court and several federal courts of appeals. He has been board certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1987. He has been listed in numerous editions of The Best Lawyers In America, including the most recent (2010).
Articles by Mr. Jansonius on labor and employment law subjects have appeared in The Labor Lawyer (American Bar Association), The Labor Law Journal (Commerce Clearing House), Southwestern Law Journal, Oklahoma Law Review and Bench and Bar of Minnesota. Mr. Jansonius served as editor of the Employment Law Guide for Financial Institutions (Texas Bankers Association) and is a contributing author of a treatise recently published by the American Bar Association entitled The Railway Labor Act. He is a frequent speaker on employment law subjects at local, state and national programs.
Mr. Jansonius received his B.A. cum laude in 1977 from Drake University and his J.D. in 1980 from the Southern Methodist University School of Law, where he was an editor of the Southwestern Law Journal from 1979 to 1980.
He is on the board of directors for the State Bar of Texas and a member of the state bars of Texas and Minnesota. He is a fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and a member of the Labor and Employment, Litigation, and Railway and Airline Labor Law sections of the ABA. He is also a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, a life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and a fellow of the Dallas Bar Foundation; past chairman of the Dallas Bar Association New Laws/Legislation Committee; 2004-2005 chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Texas; a member of the executive council of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Texas (1996-2006); and a member of the Dallas Bar Association Employment Law Section. Mr. Jansonius served as president of the Industrial Relations Research Association’s North Texas Chapter from 1987 to 1988.
Mr. Jansonius was named one of the top five labor and employment lawyers in Texas by the Texas Lawyer in 2007 and has been recognized by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business in 2010. He also has been recognized in a survey of his peers as a Texas "Super Lawyer" in the area of labor and employment and was named in the Top 100 Dallas/Fort Worth Region Texas Super Lawyer list in 2007.
