John A. Karaczynski is an experienced litigator with a practice focusing on complex civil and commercial litigation including contract disputes, antitrust and unfair trade practice claims, wage and hour litigation, libel and defamation actions, and First Amendment access claims. Mr. Karaczynski is the partner-in-charge of the firm’s Century City and Los Angeles offices and a member of the firm’s Management Committee and Partnership Admissions Committee.

Mr. Karaczynski is national antitrust counsel to the pre-eminent workers’ compensation insurance services organization. He represented that organization as national coordinating counsel and a steering committee member in two series of putative class actions alleging unfair trade practices and state antitrust violations. He also represented a major pharmaceutical company in multidistrict litigation involving claims of price-fixing and price discrimination and an independent petroleum company in an alleged "tying" case.

Mr. Karaczynski has also defended—

  • a large insurance group against wage and hour claims in putative class actions
  • media clients in libel actions brought by well-known entertainers and sports personalities and has also obtained media access to court records and proceedings in numerous high-profile criminal prosecutions
  • the nation's largest broker-dealer in a federal securities fraud trial
  • a major financial institution in a series of opt-out actions stemming from its financing of precious metal purchases
  • the founder/principal stockholder of a California-based energy company in a dispute over stock ownership
  • a sporting goods manufacturer in a wrongful termination case
  • a pharmaceutical company in a wrongful termination case.

Mr. Karaczynski was trial and appellate counsel for an international financial services group in a series of real estate and contract cases and acted as plaintiff's counsel for a well-known investment adviser and mutual fund administrator in an action to enjoin trademark infringement.

Mr. Karaczynski received his B.A. magna cum laude in 1974 from Cornell University and his J.D. cum laude in 1977 from Cornell Law School, where he was a member of the board of editors of the Cornell Law Review.
