Jonah McCarthy’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation and white collar criminal defense. Mr. McCarthy has represented companies in responding to Department of Justice subpoenas and participated in the conduct of an internal investigation for a major medical device manufacturer related to its sales and marketing practices, the federal Anti-Kickback statute and Medicare laws, and device safety. He also has represented a commercial real estate developer in litigation involving a federal contract dispute and a local country club in a contract dispute involving consulting services, where he was responsible for conducting an evidentiary hearing and cross-examining witnesses.
Mr. McCarthy’s pro bono work has included defending two college journalists in a defamation action and representing a Navy veteran in a federal Tort Claims Act case, which was appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. McCarthy received his B.A. magna cum laude in political science in 2001 from the University of California, Irvine, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his J.D. cum laude in 2004 from the Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the District of Columbia and Virginia Bars and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He is the former co-chair of the Young Lawyers and Law Students Subcommittee of the Antitrust Litigation Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation.
