Joseph L. - a privately held exploration and production company in its acquisition of the offshore assets of a publicly traded competitor
- the underwriters of numerous debt and equity offerings
- a major Texas-based beer distributor in the sale of substantially all of the company’s asset
- a public company in numerous mergers, acquisitions and divestitures of privately held automobile dealerships and dealership groups
- an exploration and production company in its initial public offering of equity securities
- the purchaser in the acquisition of a major software and technology company and its foreign affiliates
- the seller in the sale of a significant clothing manufacturing business to a nationally known clothes manufacturer
- a German manufacturer in the formation of an international joint venture project with operations in Germany, France, Canada and the United States
- a German manufacturer in the acquisition of domestic and foreign and specialty chemical manufacturing facilities

- an ethanol manufacturer in the acquisition of an ethanol manufacturing facility.
Mr. Motes received his B.S. in geology in 1983 from Trinity University and his J.D. magna cum laude in 1996 from the Southern Methodist University School of Law, where he was editor-in-chief of the Southern Methodist University Law Review. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the American and Dallas Bar Associations.
In 2011, Mr. Motes was named in Chambers U.S.A.: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business as a leading lawyer in the area of corporate/M&A. Mr. Motes has been recognized in peer-reviewed surveys as a Texas “Super Lawyer” each year since 2007 and as a Texas “Rising Star” in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Mr. Motes is involved in numerous charitable organizations, including the Associate of Retarded Citizens of Dallas and Launchability, a non-profit agency supporting families, children and adults with developmental disabilities.
