Joe Osborne focuses on white collar and corporate criminal defense, as well as civil litigation.

Mr. Osborne is currently involved in various grand jury investigations involving potential fraud in the health care industry. Among his most recent cases, he represented a state politician in a federal grand jury investigation into possible corruption. Mr. Osborne has also recently been involved in a federal grand jury investigation of a medical supply company. In addition, he was part of a team of lawyers that represented a company president indicted on various tax and mail fraud charges.

Mr. Osborne was a member of the team that assisted the commissioner of a professional sports organization in conducting various internal investigations into allegations of gambling and misconduct. On the civil side, Mr. Osborne's experience includes the representation of a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame in his efforts to recover his investment of money and baseball memorabilia; an airline in litigation with the Office of Special Counsel for Related Unfair Employment Practices; a manufacturer in connection with allegations that it had wrongfully terminated its Florida distributor; and a high-tech company involved in trade secret litigation.

Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Osborne was an associate at another law firm from 1985 to 1990. He clerked for the Honorable John Lewis Smith Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia from 1984 to 1985.

Mr. Osborne received his B.A. with honors in 1978 from Guilford College and his J.D. with high honors in 1984 from the George Washington University Law School, where he was a member of Order of the Coif. Mr. Osborne is a member of the District of Columbia Bar. In addition, he is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
