Jhett Nelson’s practice focuses on mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; finance and derivatives; capital markets transactions; and other general corporate and securities matters for a variety of companies and investment funds.
Mr. Nelson’s recent representations include—
- a vertically integrated propane and natural gas liquids MLP in its initial public offering and subsequent acquisitions
- a midstream MLP in several acquisitions including interests in major offshore pipelines and a refinery
- the conflicts committee of a publicly-traded general partner in a merger with its MLP and a midstream MLP in a restructuring merger to eliminate its incentive distribution rights
- an E&P company and a midstream MLP in the negotiation of their credit agreements
- hedge funds in their negotiation of ISDA, prime brokerage and structured financing arrangements.
Mr. Nelson earned his B.B.A. in finance and public policy from The College of William & Mary in 2006 and his J.D. with honors from The University of Texas School of Law in 2009, where he was a member of the Community Development Clinic. During school and prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Nelson worked as a commercial real estate consultant with The Situs Companies, providing financial analysis, asset management and other advisory services to banks, investment funds and government institutions. Mr. Nelson has also passed Level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) examination.
