Julie Harris’ practice focuses on taxation, trusts and estates, with an emphasis on wealth transfer, estate planning, foundations, insurance and income tax planning for high net-worth individuals.
Prior to joining Akin Gump, Ms. Harris worked for three years for a well-known tax boutique firm in Dallas. While there, she represented high net-worth individuals to minimize their exposure to both the federal estate tax and the federal gift tax, while maximizing asset protection against third parties. Ms. Harris also represented closely-held businesses with respect to the establishment, operation and tax reporting requirements of their business transactions.
Ms. Harris received her B.S. from The College of William and Mary in 1994. She received her J.D. cum laude in 2005 from North Carolina Central University School of Law, where she served on the NCCU Law Journal and was a teaching assistant for the Decedent’s Estates professor. In 2006, Ms. Harris received her LL.M in taxation from the University of Florida Levin School of Law where she also worked as a legal assistant for a member of the law school faculty. She is admitted to practice law in Texas and in North Carolina and is a member of the Texas Bar Association, the Dallas Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Association.
