Jin-Suk Park focuses on patent litigation and intellectual property transactions. Mr. Park has litigated patents in the U.S. district courts, as well as Section 337 cases before the ITC in several scientific and technical fields, including telecommunications, computer semiconductors, integrated circuits, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and genetic engineering. He has also advised clients on patent portfolio valuation, licensing and risk assessments.

Mr. Park’s representations include—

  • defending numerous telecommunications companies against patents concerning features for mobile phones (Eastern District of Texas)
  • defending a leading automobile manufacturer in multiple jurisdictions against patents concerning vehicle occupant protection (Eastern District of Texas; District of Delaware; Eastern District of Michigan)
  • defending a leading mobile phone manufacturer against patents concerning communication standards (Eastern District of Texas)
  • defending an original equipment manufacturer against patents concerning colored light emitting diodes (International Trade Commission)
  • defending a leading mobile phone manufacturer against patents concerning GPS systems (District of Delaware)
  • defending a leading mobile phone manufacturer against patents concerning paging (District of Maryland)
  • defending a leading automobile manufacturer against patents concerning injection molding (Eastern District of Michigan)
  • defending an original equipment manufacturer against patents concerning wheel bearings (International Trade Commission)
  • representing a plaintiff asserting patents concerning chemicals for treating sepsis (District of Massachusetts)
  • defending a seed manufacturer against patents concerning transgenic corn (District of Delaware).

Before joining Akin Gump, Mr. Park was an associate in the New York and Washington, D.C., offices of an international law firm.

Mr. Park received his B.A. in biology in 1996 from the Johns Hopkins University. He also conducted independent undergraduate research at the Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and as a M.S. candidate in biology. He received both his J.D. and his M.B.A. in 2001 from Boston University, where he was co-director of the law school’s Negotiation and Client Counseling Competitions and a student clerk for the Honorable John S. Unpingco and the Honorable William D. Browning (senior judge) of the U.S. District Court for the 9th Circuit. Mr. Park is a member of the New York and District of Columbia bars, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Park speaks Spanish and Korean.
