Katie Morgan advises clients regarding American Indian law and policy.
Prior to joining Akin Gump, Ms. Morgan worked as an associate at a medium-sized law firm in Washington, D.C., that solely represents Native American tribes and tribal organizations. She has represented tribal clients on a variety of matters, including issues regarding federal, state and tribal tax laws; environmental regulation; tribal college accreditation; contract support costs under the Indian Self-Determination Education and Assistance Act; tribal sovereignty; and sovereign immunity, and has prepared congressional testimony for tribal representatives.
Ms. Morgan received her B.A. in sociology in 2001 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She received her J.D. in 2005 from Columbia Law School, where she was a staff editor of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review and co-chair of the Native American Law Student Association. She is a member of the District of Columbia and Nebraska bars.
Ms. Morgan is a member of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska and currently serves as the president-elect of the Native American Bar Association of Washington, D.C.
