Kalia C. Petmecky is Senior Counsel in the Litigation Department of Akin Gump in Los Angeles. Ms. Petmecky handles all aspects of complex litigation and class actions, including pre-litigation counseling, strategy, risk management, discovery, motion practice in Federal and State courts, arbitration and mediation. Ms. Petmecky’s practice focuses on a variety of complex civil matters, including intellectual property, unfair business practices, trade secrets, consumer and employment class actions, and complex fraud and contractual disputes.

- handled a $40 million contract dispute for an international client in the construction industry
- obtained summary judgment for a television network in a copyright infringement action including the recovery of attorneys’ fees
- obtained summary judgment for a television network in a multimillion dollar contract dispute with a former production company
- obtained summary judgment for a national specialty retailer in a fraud action
- defended a client in the structured settlement business in a $200 million contract dispute
- handled all aspects of major litigation and pre-litigation matters for a television network and effectively acted as the client’s in-house litigation counsel
- managed nationwide litigation for an international cylinder manufacturer including strategy and coordination of several pending actions
- handled pre-litigation strategy and regulatory compliance issues for a national manufacturer of bedding products
- first-chaired arbitrations involving multi-million dollar contracts and tort remedies for a national food service company
- defended a municipality in a complex multimillion dollar action arising out of the California energy crisis
- obtained dismissal of a multimillion dollar RICO complaint against a national media company

Ms. Petmecky received her LL.B. from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom in 1992. She is a member of the California Bar and the Republic of Cyprus Bar.
