Matthew Pepping’s practice focuses on litigation. Mr. Pepping primarily represents, and assists the representation of, insurers in large coverage disputes. He also advises insurers in complex coverage matters. Mr. Pepping’s experience includes—
- assisting the defense of London market insurers sued for bad faith denial of coverage of a failed financial services conglomerate
- advising London market insurers on claims for coverage under Directors and Officers (D&O), Professional Indemnity and Excess policies of a failed financial services conglomerate
- representing domestic insurer in state-court lawsuit alleging violations of the Texas Domestic Trade Practices Act and Insurance Code
- assisting representation of insurance company in class action arising out of sale of variable annuities
- representing insurance company in FINRA arbitration regarding sale of variable annuities
- assisting the defense of London market insurer in coverage dispute with large international law firm regarding claims arising out of its lobbying practice
- representing insurer in action seeking rescission of D&O policy and declaratory relief
- providing coverage advice for claims to D&O policies following investigations initiated by various government agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice.
Mr. Pepping has an active pro bono practice, and he was named Pro Bono Associate of the Year for the San Antonio office in 2010. Mr. Pepping is also active in his local community. He serves on the executive committee of the Family Violence Prevention Services Board of Directors, which operates the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter of San Antonio.
Mr. Pepping received his B.A. magna cum laude in political science and business administration from Trinity University, where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Mortar Board. He received his J.D. cum laude from Notre Dame Law School where he was editor-in-chief of the Journal of College and University Law.
Mr. Pepping is a member of the State Bar of Texas.
