Mohammad Vakil’s practice focuses on complex commercial dispute resolution and governmental policy work.
Mr. Vakil has extensive experience advising government entities on a wide range of regulatory and commercial law issues, including in the areas of procedural reform and alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Vakil has authored numerous reports and given presentations to government committees on construction law upgrades, reforms to secured transactions regimes and insurance law revisions. He also has organized and facilitated the training of judges on commercial law topics on behalf of a jurisdiction. Mr. Vakil has experience in both civil law and common law legal systems.
As an active member of the firm’s dispute resolution practice, Mr. Vakil advises Middle Eastern and multinational businesses on commercial disputes and assists them in managing their litigation risks. Mr. Vakil’s practice spans various jurisdictions and he regularly advises clients on transnational disputes before U.S. courts.
Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Vakil was an associate at a large New York firm, where he worked on a wide range of litigation matters including in the areas of antitrust, intellectual property, regulatory investigations and securities litigation defense.
Mr. Vakil is the co-author of “Lawyer’s Bookshelf: A Review of Business and Commercial Litigation in Federal Courts (2nd Edition),” New York Law Journal (August 23, 2006). Mr. Vakil also sits on the international editorial advisory board of a major international legal publisher.
Mr. Vakil is a native English-speaker and conversant in Persian and German.
Mr. Vakil received his B.A. cum laude in 2002 from Bowdoin College and his J.D. in 2005 from Harvard Law School. He is a member of the New York State Bar.
