Paul T. McGurkin Jr. represents clients in commercial litigation before federal and state courts. He has handled matters involving securities laws, accountants’ liability, business tort, contract, antitrust and health care and has experience defending class actions.
His recent representations include—
- an accounting firm sued for negligent misrepresentation by a syndicate of lenders
- an accounting firm sued by a former client’s bankruptcy trustee alleging negligent misrepresentation, professional malpractice, breach of fiduciary duty, deepening insolvency and breach of contract
- an accounting firm in a shareholder class action alleging violations of federal securities laws
- an accounting firm in an action brought by bondholders alleging securities fraud
- an accounting firm sued for defamation and commercial disparagement claims related to forensic investigation services
- health insurers in several actions filed by medical providers alleging ERISA violations, breach of fiduciary duty, contract and quasi-contract, and breach of state prompt pay statute.

Mr. McGurkin received his B.A. magna cum laude in government and world affairs in 2003 from the University of Tampa, where he was a member of the honors program and Omicron Delta Kappa, the leadership honor society. He received his J.D. cum laude in 2007 from the Temple University Beasley School of Law, where he was a member of the International & Comparative Law Journal.
Mr. McGurkin is a volunteer attorney for the Support Center for Child Advocates, the country’s oldest and largest pro bono legal and social services agency for children.
Mr. McGurkin is a member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey bars. He is also a member of the University of Tampa National Alumni Association board of directors and is an active alumnus of LaSalle College High School.
