Randy Levine focuses on labor and employment matters. He is also the president of the New York Yankees.
In his capacity as president of the New York Yankees, a position he has held since 2000, Mr. Levine has—
- advised on all sponsorship and stadium advertising agreements, including multimillion-dollar agreements with major sponsorship categories
- helped create Legends Hospitality Management, a leading hospitality and stadium management business, and was involved in all contractual arrangements with Legends Hospitality Management for the management of Yankee stadium
- played lead role in creating the Yankees Entertainment and Sports (YES) Network and was involved in all contractual broadcast arrangements between YES and over-the-air, satellite and cable carriers
- participated in obtaining rights agreements with radio broadcasters, including WCBS
- led all aspects of the development and financing of the $1.5 billion Yankee Stadium, including negotiations with local, state and federal governments.
In addition to his work for the New York Yankees, Mr. Levine led—
- the purchase and sale of the New Jersey Nets NBA team
- the purchase and sale of the New Jersey Devils NHL team.
Before joining Akin Gump, Mr. Levine served as the deputy mayor for economic development, planning and administration for the city of New York, where he coordinated the Giuliani administration's economic development policies. Prior to joining the mayor's office, he served as the chief labor negotiator for Major League Baseball (MLB) and, in 1996, negotiated MLB’s landmark labor agreement that led to the sport's return to prominence. Before joining MLB, Mr. Levine served as the commissioner of labor relations for the city of New York, where he negotiated several groundbreaking contracts with New York City municipal workers and successfully mediated disputes within the hotel and commercial real estate industries.
Previously, Mr. Levine served as principal associate deputy attorney general and principal deputy associate attorney general at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he was the recipient of several Exceptional Service Awards. He received his B.A. in 1977 from The George Washington University and his J.D. in 1980 from Hofstra University School of Law. He is a member of the New York Bar and serves on The George Washington University Board of Trustees.
