Scott H. Racine has extensive experience in corporate and partnership tax matters, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, joint ventures, recapitalizations and restructuring. He also has extensive experience in advising both hedge and private equity funds in formation and operation. His experience extends to both domestic and international transactions. Mr. Racine also has represented clients in federal and California tax controversy matters. He advises both individual and corporate clients on individual, corporate, partnership, trust and international taxation matters in diverse industries, including real estate, health care, investment management, food service, energy, technology and entertainment.

Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Racine was a shareholder in a tax specialty firm in Los Angeles. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable William M. Drennen, former chief judge of the U.S. Tax Court.

Mr. Racine received his B.A. from Bradley University in 1972 and his J.D. cum laude in 1978 from the Pepperdine University School of Law, where he was student writing editor of the Pepperdine Law Review. He received his LL.M. in taxation from the New York University School of Law in 1979.

Mr. Racine is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association (Section on Taxation) and the California Bar Association (Section on Taxation). He is also a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association (Section on Taxation), and previously served as chairman of its Pass-Through Entities Section. He is a frequent author and lecturer on various tax issues, and has lectured for the Practicing Law Institute, the State Bar of California, the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the University of Southern California Tax Institute. He is an adjunct professor at the Loyola University School of Law's Graduate Tax Program and at Pepperdine University School of Law, and previously was an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law. He is a member of the board of visitors of the Pepperdine University School of Law, a member of the board of advisors of the Loyola University School of Law's graduate tax program and a member of the University of Southern California Tax Institute Planning Committee.
