Sarah J. Ring practices intellectual property litigation and prosecution, with a focus on patent litigation and patent and trademark prosecution. Ms. Ring’s experience includes patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation; patent prosecution; trademark prosecution; and intellectual property counseling.
Ms. Ring has represented clients in a diverse range of matters including—
- patent infringement litigation in several industries including the oil and gas and the cement blasting sectors
- intellectual property due diligence and licensing on a proposed buyout of two drill pipe entities by a major international drill pipe and drill casing manufacturer
- intellectual property due diligence and licensing on the proposed purchase of directional drilling technology by a large exploration and production company
- invalidity, patentability, infringement, and state-of-the-art analysis and opinions involving chemical process, oil and gas exploration and production tools and software/business methods applications
- management and prosecution of several trademark portfolios, including a large portfolio for a major college network
- trademark registrability and infringement analysis and opinions
- patent prosecution of software/business methods, chemical processes, oil and gas exploration and production tools, electrical connectors for high-stress environments.
Ms. Ring is currently a member of the Houston office’s diversity committee.
Prior to entering law school, Ms. Ring was a transportation planning engineer for El Paso Corporation.
Ms. Ring received her B.S. cum laude in chemical engineering from Vanderbilt University in 2001. She received her J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center in 2006.
Ms. Ring is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and before the U.S. district courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of Texas. She is also a member of American Inns of Court (Garland Walker Inn of Court), the Houston Intellectual Property Law Association and the Houston Young Lawyers Association.
