Scott Street is an associate in Akin Gump's Los Angeles office and is a member of its litigation practice. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation and appellate litigation matters. He has also played an active role in several of the firm's pro bono projects, and, drawing on his prior political experience, he continues to advise pro bono clients on legislative and policy matters.

He received a bachelor of arts degree from UCLA and graduated cum laude from Loyola Law School, where he was a Dean’s Scholar and was elected to the Order of the Coif. While in law school he served as the chief note and comment editor of Loyola’s Entertainment Law Review and was selected to join the Scott Moot Court Honors Board, through which he competed on one of the school’s competitive moot court teams. He also received the Judge William M. Byrne, Sr. Memorial Award for his academic accomplishments.

In addition, Mr. Street served as a judicial extern to the Hon. Kim McLane Wardlaw of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Street worked as a journalist and as a political strategist. He wrote for The Chronicle of Higher Education in Washington, DC, covering a range of national education issues from free speech on college campuses to college sports gaming regulation in Congress. Later, he worked for the education advocate Achieve, Inc., helping in that organization’s effort to pass the No Child Left Behind Act and to host the 2002 National Education Summit, which gathered education, government and business leaders to discuss the future of education reform in America.

Mr. Street has also gained valuable experience in the political arena. He began as an intern in the White House speechwriting office of President Bill Clinton, then later advised the campaigns of a number of Democratic lawmakers and candidates. He served as the deputy research and policy director to the United States Senate campaign of South Carolina Judge Alex Sanders and filled the same role on the 2004 presidential campaign of Rep. Dick Gephardt. Mr. Street also served as the communications director for former Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn’s re-election campaign and worked as a consultant for the research firm Harmon Strategies, which provided political research, policy, and communications support to political candidates across the country.

Mr. Street has written several articles on constitutional issues, including a piece on the First Amendment rights of reporters to protect their confidential sources and a piece on the debate over students’ rights in the public school setting. He is an adjunct professor of law at Loyola Law School, where he teaches a seminar on the current Supreme Court, and remains active in Loyola’s moot court program.
