Timothy J. Becker advises on U.S. and international tax matters, with a focus on the formation and operation of domestic and offshore private investment funds, including hedge funds and private equity funds. In this capacity, he regularly advises on international tax issues that arise with investments in the United States by non-U.S. investors (including investors subject to special U.S. tax treatment), as well as investments outside of the United States by U.S. persons.
Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Becker was an associate at two other major U.S. law firms and a tax attorney at American International Group, Inc.
Mr. Becker received his B.A. cum laude in 1998 from Loyola University in Maryland, his J.D. and M.B.T. in 2002 from the University of Southern California and his LL.M. in 2008 from New York University. He is a member of the New York and Massachusetts bars.
