Troy D. Cahill focuses his practice on appellate litigation before the Supreme Court of the United States and federal courts of appeals. Mr. Cahill also devotes a significant portion of his practice to complex civil litigation before state and federal trial courts. Mr. Cahill has counseled and represented corporate clients in a variety of subject areas, including preliminary injunctions, government contracts, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Higher Education Act, contracts, unfair competition, and consumer protection laws.

Recently, Mr. Cahill assisted in an appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit implicating novel issues under the False Claims Act and the Contract Disputes Act. He also assisted in an appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit implicating emerging procedural issues relating to intervention and class certification.

Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Cahill served as staff attorney in the Supreme Court of the United States, Office of the Clerk from 2002 to 2006. While there, Mr. Cahill assisted in the disposition of emergency applications for interim relief. In addition, he delivered numerous presentations on Supreme Court practice and procedure at various conferences and seminars.

From 1999 to 2000 Mr. Cahill was a law clerk to the Honorable Frank W. Bullock Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.

Mr. Cahill received his B.S. in history and psychology from James Madison University in 1991. He received his J.D. cum laude in 1999 from the Wake Forest University School of Law, where he was named to Order of the Coif and served as executive editor of the Wake Forest Law Review.

Mr. Cahill is a member of the District of Columbia and North Carolina Bars.

Mr. Cahill is a regular contributor to the Legal Times and SCOTUSBlog, for which he writes about cases pending before the Supreme Court of the United States.
