Todd E. Landis practices intellectual property litigation in the areas of electronic arts, chemical arts and oil field services.

Mr. Landis has served as trial counsel in several intellectual property litigation cases and has significant trial and Markman hearing experience. He has represented companies as both plaintiff and defendant in patent infringement cases.  Mr. Landis also has extensive experience in transactional aspects of intellectual property law including complex licensing.

Mr. Landis' patent litigation experience includes—

  • defending the world’s largest telecommunications companies in litigation regarding the invention of smartphone technology (Eastern District of Texas)
  • defending a leading cellphone manufacturer in litigation regarding modem technology (Eastern District of Texas)
  • defending a major supplier of laptop computers in cases involving various component of laptop computers (Eastern District of Texas and Northern District of California)
  • defending major SDRAM manufacturer in litigation regarding voltage regulation and power boosting technology (Eastern District of Texas)
  • acted as co-lead trial attorney in prosecuting infringement claims on behalf of major oil field services company resulting in the fourth largest patent judgment in 2004 (Eastern District of Texas)
  • defending an international worldwide leader of drill pipe and casing in litigation regarding insulator sleeve technology (Southern District of Texas)
  • defending a major medical device manufacturer against claims of patent infringement, correction of inventorship, trade secret misappropriation, fraud, breach of contract and deceptive trade practices; prosecuted counterclaims for breach of contract, tortious interference and misappropriation of trade secrets (Western District of Tennessee)
  • prosecuting infringement claims relating to balloon catheter technology (Northern District of California)
  • defending a major chemical supplier in litigation involving the manufacture of acetic acid (Southern District of Texas).

In 2012, Mr. Landis was named a “Rising Star” in a survey of Texas lawyers designed to identify the top young lawyers in Texas. Before joining Akin Gump, Mr. Landis was a shareholder in a large international law firm and a partner in a medium-sized Dallas-based firm.

Mr. Landis received his B.S. in physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1993 and his J.D. from the Franklin Pierce Law Center in 1997. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, and the Dallas Bar Association and its Intellectual Property Section, as well as the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. district courts for the Eastern, Northern and Southern Districts of Texas.
