Vlad Sourkov is a partner and head of Akin Gump’s Russian real estate practice. Mr. Sourkov has over a decade of experience in the real estate sector, and his practice focuses on advising domestic and international clients on a broad range of real estate issues. Mr. Sourkov represents sellers and purchasers of various commercial real estate assets and negotiates on behalf of clients on joint venture agreements related to the development and operation of commercial real estate. He also represents international mortgage banks and borrowers in construction financing and refinancing transactions. He regularly advises landlords and tenants on long-term office, warehouse and retail lease transactions.
Mr. Sourkov’s recent experience includes—
- advising a leading international investment fund on the sale of a DIY store in Saint Petersburg to a DIY operator
- advising an international investment fund on the sale of residential assets in Saint Petersburg to its joint venture partner
- representing Siemens in connection with the acquisition of a class A office building in Moscow for its regional headquarters
- advising a Russian developer on the forward sale of a shopping mall in Moscow to a European investor for approximately $350 million
- advising a Russian developer on the creation of a joint venture with an international investment fund in relation to development of a shopping mall
- representing a Russian developer on an investment agreement with a large retail chain in relation to development of a hypermarket
- advising a leading European bank on a major secured syndicated financing into Russia.
Mr. Sourkov is ranked as a leading lawyer by the independent legal directory Chambers Global 2011 for real estate work in Russia, where he is described as someone who “looks for solutions and always remains reasonable.” He is also recommended for real estate in Russia by The Legal 500: Europe, Middle East & Africa 2011, which quoted a client as saying, “When it comes to judging difficult Russian real estate law issues, we go to Vlad Sourkov.” For the last four years, Mr. Sourkov has been also consistently ranked in the prestigious “CRE 100” rating of the most influential people in the commercial real estate market in Russia.
Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Sourkov was a partner in the Moscow offices of an international law firm. Mr. Sourkov graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) with an honors degree in law. He is a native Russian speaker and is fluent in English and French.
