Warren E. Connelly represents clients in proceedings before the Department of Commerce, the International Trade Commission, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, the Court of International Trade and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He handles a wide variety of import- and export-related matters, including trade policy, unfair trade litigation, WTO dispute resolution proceedings, international arbitrations, and customs. During a career at Akin Gump that bridges four decades, Mr. Connelly has also been extensively involved in a variety of administrative and civil court litigation. His clients have included Samsung Electronics, Archer Daniels Midland, Pier 1 Imports, Mazda, Walt Disney, Shell Oil, Fujitsu Limited, Florida Citrus Mutual, Paramount Farms, Tyson Foods, Chicken of the Sea, Darden Restaurants, Phillips Foods, Inc. and the governments of Ecuador, Korea and Israel.
Mr. Connelly is a senior partner in Akin Gump’s international trade practice. He was selected in 2005 as one of the 10 most highly regarded international trade and customs lawyers in Washington in an independent survey conducted by The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers and has been selected for inclusion in Who’s Who Legal from 2002-2010. He was ranked by Chambers USA from 2005-2011 as one of the top trade lawyers in Washington, D.C. He is also listed in the 2006-2011 editions of The Best Lawyers in America as well as in the 2006-2011 editions of the International Who’s Who of Trade & Customs Lawyers. From 2007 through 2011, The Washington Post listed him as one of the top trade lawyers in Washington, D.C., and he appears in the 2009 and 2010 lists of Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers. In 2008, he was appointed to the indicative list of nongovernmental U.S. citizens eligible to serve as panelists in WTO dispute resolution proceedings. In 1998, he was selected by the Office of the United States Trade Representative to serve on binational panels convened under NAFTA Chapter 19. He previously served on the binational panel created under the U.S./Canada Free Trade Agreement. For many years, Mr. Connelly chaired Akin Gump’s international trade practice, its pro bono committee and its recruiting committee, and also served on its strategic planning committee.
Mr. Connelly received his A.B. cum laude and with distinction in government from Dartmouth College in 1968. Between 1968 and 1970, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Artillery Branch. He received his J.D. in 1973 from the Georgetown University Law Center and is a member of the District of Columbia Bar.
