General Summary: 

Under the general supervision and direction of the Enterprise Applications Manager and following prescribed department, office and firm procedures and as a member of the Enterprise Systems team, the Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the firm’s mission-critical infrastructure applications are available and properly functioning at all times. The Systems Engineer is responsible for the daily operations, security, and maintenance of Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory, as well as the firm’s Document Management System (DMS) and other supporting applications.  The Systems Engineer’s responsibilities will also entail research, development and architecture of new technologies and solutions to help the firm achieve greater innovation and efficiencies.  The Systems Engineer is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.  Above all, the Systems Engineer must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm’s Core Values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Duties are performed throughout every work day, as necessary):

Systems Administration

  • Support and maintain the firm’s Microsoft Exchange environment, Active Directory, the firm’s document management system, and all sub-systems associated with them.
  • Perform system maintenance in accordance with established schedules and best practices.
  • Monitor, secure, identify, and qualify system patches/updates for consideration.
  • Install, update, and maintain supported systems as necessary.
  • Perform security audits, report findings, and take corrective action.

Collaboration & Customer Service

  • Assist Enterprise Systems teams to provide third-level support for assigned services.
  • Assist as needed in the day-to-day maintenance of the systems supported by the Enterprise Applications team.
  • Collaborate with firm personnel on document management, messaging, and other strategic projects.
  • Contribute to written material as appropriate to IT standard operation procedures manual.
  • Handle tickets in a timely manner.
  • Work on call and extended hours as required.

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise in the administration with any four or more of the following systems:
    • Microsoft Exchange 2013/2016
    • Active Directory
    • Powershell
    • iManage Work
    • NetDocuments
    • Microsoft SQL
    • Symantec Enterprise Vault
    • Proofpoint Protection Server
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Microsoft Office 365 and Enterprise Mobility Suite
  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner
  • Conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times
  • Protect and maintain the confidentiality of the firm’s data
  • Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities
  • Proven ability to maintain and update technical knowledge and skills

Educational Qualifications/Job Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred; however substantial work experience may substitute for education
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in IT operations, preferably in a professional service environment
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) preferred
