At orientation for new associates, you begin to build relationships with your colleagues, formulate your individual development plan and dive deeper into the firm’s overall strategic vision and practice focuses. To ensure a smooth assimilation into the life and culture of Akin Gump, we assign new attorneys two mentors—a partner and an associate—to offer guidance and feedback on work, make introductions and help recent hires navigate their way within the firm.

Our competency-based program coordinates substantive work assignments with more formal course work, carefully calibrated to reflect each associate’s stage of development and practice areas. The program’s curriculum in the Core Competencies of ownership, professional excellence, service and teamwork, and client focus, complements our classroom curriculum and hands-on learning.
