Q: How many summer associates does the Philadelphia office expect to hire for the 2019 summer program?

A: We expect to hire one summer associate for the 2019 summer program.

Q: Where does our 2018 summer associates attend law school?

A: University of Pennsylvania

Q: What law schools does Akin Gump’s Philadelphia office visit for on-campus interviews?

A: In 2018 we will visit the Loyola Patent Law Interview Program and participate in OCI at Georgetown, UC Irvine, University of Houston, and University of Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia office is also represented by interviewers from our other offices at various campuses during OCI. In addition, we conduct resume drops at American, George Mason, George Washington University, Michigan, Rutgers, Santa Clara, Stanford, Temple, UC Berkeley, UVA, and Villanova; review the resumes of write-in applicants; and consider students who do not attend schools at which we interview on-campus.

Q: Do you hire 1Ls for your summer program?

A: We hire 1Ls on a case-by-case basis. Please check our website in December for more information about 1L hiring for the 2019 summer program.

Q: Does the Philadelphia office allow split summers?

A: Although we encourage students to spend the entire summer program with us, we do consider split summers on a case-by-case basis.

Q: How long after a candidate interviews in the Philadelphia office should he/she expect a hiring decision?

A: Decisions are made in a timely manner. Candidates who receive an offer will be notified by phone and letter.

Q: Do I have to choose a particular practice area at the beginning of the summer?

A: Yes. Summer associates in the Philadelphia office are hired to work with the intellectual property practice.

Q: What if I am unsure of the area in which I would like to practice?

A: The Philadelphia office hires summer associates for its intellectual property practice only.
