Recruiting

We believe the best way to recruit diverse lawyers to Akin Gump, and the legal profession, is to show them what’s possible. For law students and aspiring lawyers, our summer and year-round programs provide immersive work experiences, mentorship and networking that build a foundation for the future. Our partnerships with like-minded clients and nonprofits expand the opportunities to experience real-world legal environments at the firm and beyond. We bring a similar commitment to diversity when recruiting lateral attorneys and partners.

Akin Gump/Robert S. Strauss Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship

This signature two-year program brings outstanding diverse law students to work at Akin Gump following their first and second years of law school, and also introduces them to in-house life by sharing part of their first summer with firm clients.

Pro Bono Scholars Program

Another two-year summer program for top first-year law school students who show a strong interest in making pro bono an integral part of their Akin Gump careers. Participants spend part of their first summer at a public interest or legal services organization working entirely on pro bono matters.

SEO Law Fellows Program

Since 2008, we have provided summer internships to rising 1L students of color from top law schools to work in our Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C., offices.

Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Internship Program

For more than five years, Akin Gump has hosted high-achieving diverse NYC public high school students as summer interns. We also hold a Diverse Careers Panel for all Thurgood Marshall interns to learn about legal employment opportunities.

“Through my internship I learned how to spot the trademarks of programs and firm cultures that valued and invested in all their resources and how Akin Gump was ultimately a great fit for me.” Cynthia Angell, SEO Law Fellow and Senior Practice Attorney
