Antitrust/Competition > Overview

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP’s antitrust practice is based in Washington, D.C., which allows our practitioners to deliver advice and representation current to the day on agency and judicial action and ahead of the curve on doctrinal developments and policy directions. We are committed to high-value client service—intellectually rigorous, frank, timely and cost-effective representation. Our lawyers are prominent in the antitrust bar. They hold multiple leadership positions in the American Bar Association, have a record of public service and work on leading-edge litigation, enforcement, mergers and acquisitions and criminal matters.

Our work has spanned many industries, including health care, energy, chemical products, numerous intellectual property and patent settings, insurance, pharmaceuticals, financial institutions, computer hardware and software, Internet issues, automobile parts and manufacturing, freight forwarding, air cargo, recreational vehicles, veterinary medicine, insecticides and oil field services. Our practitioners are recognized in particular for their energy, health care and intellectual property experience.

We place a high value on our candor, credibility and analytical rigor. In the area of mergers and acquisitions, we provide strategic advice on merger planning and negotiations and representation before federal and state agencies. We are defending, or have defended in recent years, civil class action lawsuits alleging joint conduct, monopolization and vertical distribution issues, including multidistrict litigation and cases following on government civil and criminal prosecutions. We defend civil and criminal investigations, not only in antitrust matters, but also in those involving related competition laws such as the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), False Claims Act (FCA) and consumer protection laws. We appear regularly before the U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, state attorneys general and federal regulatory agencies on antitrust and competition matters. Our practice includes a significant international component, involving mergers and acquisitions, criminal representations and litigation crossing national boundaries. Finally, we are active in providing advice on a range of legislative and public policy matters arising in the nation’s capital, including issues related to the Affordable Care Act, and various other legislative matters.
