For its article “Private credit’s bumpy ESG ride,” 9fin quoted Akin private credit partner Ryan Kim. The article looks at the private credit industry’s acceptance and promotion of environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters among its funds and firms.
On the topic, however, of the relative weight given to ESG metrics compared to pricing and leverage, among other factors, Ryan said, “For KPIs and other sustainability-linked measures, it hasn’t made it to the level of ‘we need to have this or we’re not going to do the deal.’ It’s not yet a deal breaker.”
