Akin lobbying & public policy partner Arshi Siddiqui has been quoted by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Law and Forbes on the Internal Revenue Service’s delayed enforcement of a tax policy that would require users of digital wallets and e-commerce platforms to start reporting small transactions. Arshi represents a business coalition seeking to change the tax requirements established in 2021.
In the NYT article “Users of Venmo, Cash App and Other Digital Wallets Get a Tax Reprieve,” Arshi said: “The I.R.S. decision represents a huge win for millions of consumers who would have been hit with a freight train of 1099-Ks in January and also buys more time for Congress to craft a permanent legislative solution on a bipartisan basis.”
For WSJ’s “IRS Delays Tax Rule for Online Sellers—Again,” she said: “The Biden administration's decision represents a victory for common-sense tax policy by ensuring that consumers are not facing a tsunami of 1099-Ks in January.”
Bloomberg Law, for its article “IRS Delays $600 Reporting Threshold for PayPal, Cash App,” quoted Arshi as saying: “The IRS decision to delay 1099-K implementation spares millions of Americans from widespread confusion and represents a critical step in allowing Congress more time to craft a legislative solution.”
In Forbes’s article “Taxpayer Advocate And Others Weigh In On IRS Decision To Delay Form 1099-K Reporting,” Arshi added: “Congressional Members across the ideological spectrum are working towards a permanent, bipartisan fix and we look forward to working with them to provide certainty for millions of Americans.”
