For its segment “Chip supply chain: China is in a leading position but doesn’t have a ‘chokehold,’ law firm says,” CNBC interviewed Akin lobbying & public policy partner Clete Willems.

Clete, who served in the Trump administration as Deputy Director of the National Economic Council and as a key negotiator with foreign governments and bodies, including China, answered questions regarding supply chains in the tech sector, expressing his thoughts on U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s recent China visit and communication efforts between the United States and China.

On the Yellen visit, Clete said that he considered it successful to an extent, but “I don’t see it as taking us on a different trajectory when it comes to the tech competition. There is widespread support in the United States for efforts to de-risk away from China. China is actually trying to do much of the same thing, and I don’t think the conversation over the weekend is going to change that in a dramatic fashion.”
