Brett D. Fieldston focuses his practice on tax matters, with particular focus on the structuring of hedge funds and private equity funds and their investments, as well as the structuring of insurance and offshore reinsurance companies.

Practice & Background

Mr. Fieldston regularly advises fund managers and sponsors regarding partnership and international tax planning matters. Mr. Fieldston also advises insurance and offshore reinsurance companies regarding tax structuring and operational matters. In his pro bono practice, Mr. Fieldston represents arts and community organizations regarding their tax-exempt status and provides international tax planning advice to organizations engaged in infrastructure and other development projects in Africa and the Caribbean.

Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Fieldston was an associate at another law firm, where he focused on tax, mergers and acquisitions and securities regulatory matters.

Mr. Fieldston received his B.A. magna cum laude in history in 2006 from Columbia University, where he was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and his J.D. from Yale Law School in 2009, where he was a senior editor of the Yale Journal of International Law.
