Jessica Howlett is an associate in the Litigation team in Hong Kong. She has experience advising on a wide range of contentious issues involving, among other things, enforcement and recovery proceedings, shareholder actions, disputes concerning complex debt and equity investments, contentious regulatory matters, contentious insolvency and restructuring related situations.
Ms. Howlett joined Akin Gump in 2014, having previously been a trainee in the London office of an American firm. Ms. Howlett was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2014.
Ms. Howlett received her B.A. (Hons) in History and Politics from the University of Warwick in 2008. She completed her Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Law School, London in 2010 and subsequently completed the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School, London in 2011.
Ms. Howlett’s recent engagements include:
- acting for an international investment firm in connection with a cross-border debt investment dispute and enforcement proceedings before courts in the PRC and Hong Kong
- acting for a U.S. financial institution to freeze and recover funds fraudulently transferred to Hong Kong
- advising investment funds in relation to the insider dealing and market manipulation enforcement regime in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region more generally
- advising UK based administrators in relation to proceedings in Hong Kong related to a security enforcement sale.
